Types of Brakes

1. Disc Brakes

Most of the brakes which are used today are disc brakes. In this the pad presses against a disc or rotor to stop the car. The first three types of squeaks which are mentioned above come from disc brakes.

2. Many cars have drum brakes which are situated on the back wheels. A curved shoe presses against the hollow drum to stop the moving car. The last squeak which is mentioned above is made by drum brakes.

1. Disc Brakes Squeak After the Car Sits Overnight

Most of the brakes start to squeak after sitting overnight. This generally happens when the moisture gets accumulated from the rain, dew on the surface of the rotors. A thin layer of rust is formed on the surface of the rotor when the moisture gets collected on it.

With the movement, when the rotor turns, the rust gets scraped off from the rotors and then gets caught on the brake pad. These small particles of rust then get caught on the top most edge of the brake pad. This further causes the brake to squeak.

The best way to get rid of this squeak is to store your automobile in a climate-controlled environment. The rust which gets collected on the rotors causes a thumping noise.

2. Thinning Brake Pads

One another common cause of the brake squeak is the brake wear indicator. If you hear this sound, then it means that your brake pads are almost worn out and are getting extremely thin. The wear indicators are small metal tabs which are made up of hard steel. These indicators are attached in different ways like welding them on, using a push on clip or a rivet. The rotors are then hit by steel tabs before the brake pad totally wears out. 3. High Metal Content in Brake Pads

The metal particles in the brake dust have the ability to discolour chrome and aluminium wheels.

4. Drum Brakes that need Lubrication

Have you ever heard a squeak from the rear brakes once you have pushed on the brake pedal? This is a clear sign that the shoe-to-backing plate needs lubrication. Now when it happens, the shoes will scrape against the backing plate, thus causing a squeaking noise when the wheel s would rotate. Most of the vehicles have disc brakes on all the four wheels, while still there are some cars which use drum brakes on rear wheels.

The best way to keep this noise away is to keep all its contact points lubricated. You can use a high temperature anti-seize compound for this purpose.

Shows and Competition in Monster Jam

At each Monster Jam show there are two styles of competition- side by side racing and freestyle. In the smaller events donuts contest and wheelie competitions are held.

In the freestyle competition, the driver have a limited amount of time and a free track to do whatever they want to please the crowd. 

The freestyle truckers show off their skills as they drive over the cars and do jaw dropping stunts and tricks with their trucks. Freestyle usually gets the crowd really into it since they are the judges.

In side by side, the trucks cross the obstacles to cross the finish line or to win the champion racing trophy by winning the race.

Beasts of the event

Now let us get face to face with the stars of the show i.e. the Monster trucks. Each Monster Jam truck is 10.5 feet tall, 12 feet wide, 17 feet long and weighs 10000 pounds. Monster Truck produces beastly horsepower of 1500 and all credit goes to the blower.

Methanol fuel powers the engine which is consumed at the rate of three gallon per minute. The tires are 66 inches in diameter and 43 inches wide and each tire weighs 800 pound. Driver’s compartment is a steel safety structure mounted to the truck frame.

El Toro Loco is a monster truck in professional Monster jam series. It features one of the first 3-D body shells, with horns sticking out of roof. The custom built bull and its Mexican raging style was introduced to Monster Jam fans in 2001.

It is driven by Marc McDonald, Chuck Werner, Becky McDonough, Mark list etc.

Dragon- The fiercest one!

Dragon is the fiercest looking one in the entire fleet. It was introduced in 2014 and it features spikes jutting through its skin and long horns curling back atop its skull with angled fins slicing the air. It is driven by Scott Liddycoat from Suffolk.

Zombie- The after world monster truck!

Zombie was picked to comeback from the after world in Monster Jam. Zombie debuted in 2013 with experienced driver Sean Duhon who tamed previous monster truck “Superman”. In 2017, Zombie will be represented by drivers Bari Musawwir, Tyler Groth and Ami Houde.

Max-D – Maximum Destruction!

Max-D debuted in 2003 and was officially classified as “Futuristic SUV”. It had the history to be driven by most successful competitors like Tom Meents.

Pit Party

Safety is the first priority of drivers. Monster trucks are designed to protect the drivers. Specially constructed seats that mold to the driver’s shape allow the work to be done with minimal distraction. A five point harness is mounted securely to the truck to help hold the driver in position.

• The Second International wanted to commemorate the Haymarket affair which was held in Chicago on 4th May, 1886, so they chose the date for International Worker’s Day.
• On 4th of May, 1886, seven police officers and four civilians died due to a bomb blast.
• The dynamite blast was a reply to the killings of the peaceful demonstrations by police the day before.

• After the bombing, eight anarchists were sentenced to death.
• The case shaped the international headlines as all the indications suggested that none of those eight men had thrown the bomb.
• Then later after three years, there was a French socialist party which formed an international day to honour the labour movement and then May 1 was selected as Labour’s Day in commemoration of the Haymarket Massacre.
