Valentine’s Day
On every 14th of February, all the people around the world exchange gifts, flowers, and candies between their loved ones, in the name of St. Valentine. Now you must be thinking that who is this mysterious saint and from where all these traditions come from? Here is the history of thus centuries old holiday.
The Legend of St. Valentine
The history of Valentine’s Day and the story of its patron are shrouded in mystery. The month of February is celebrated as the month of romance. St. Valentine’s Day contains the vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman tradition. Now the question which might be arising in your mind is who was Saint Valentine and how is he associated with all this?
There were three different saints who were recognized by the Catholic Church named Valentine or Valentinus. All of them were brutally martyred. It is believed that Valentine was a priest who was served during the third century in Rome. Emperor Claudius II believed that single men are better soldiers than those who are married and have families. That’s why he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine realized the injustice of Claudius and he continued to perform the marriages for young lovers in secret.
When Claudius found about these secret activities performed by Valentine, then it was ordered to put him to death. According to one legend, it is believed that Valentine was imprisoned and from there he sent his first “valentine” greeting to the girl whom he loved truly. The girl for whom he fell was his jailor’s daughter. Before his death, he wrote a beautiful letter for her and signed it as “From your Valentine”. This expression is still used by everyone on Valentine’s Day. All of his stories emphasize his appeal as a sympathetic, heroic and most important of all is his romantic figure.
Origins of Valentine’s Day
Some of the people think that Valentine’s Day is celebrated in the middle of February to commemorate the anniversary of Valentine’s death or his burial. On the other hand some believe that Christians might have decided to place St. Valentine’s feast day in middle of February.
Modern Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day gained popularity in England in the 1700’s. People began to send cards and flowers to their loved ones and this tradition is still continued today. It was Hallmark who printed the first Valentine’s Day card commercially in the year 1913. Today every year more than a billion of Valentine’s Day cards are sold. It is the second busiest greeting card period of the year, in the line behind Christmas.
At present more than 36 million hearts shaped boxes of chocolates and more than 50 million roses are sold every year on Valentine’s Day.

Why is it so important to celebrate New Year’s Eve?
Every year people celebrate New Year’s Eve with great excitement. Now if you are thinking about it, then why is it so important to celebrate New Year’s Eve?  Basically New Year is the time when we are changing over from one year to the next year. Big Deal! On 2nd of January nothing has actually changed. Things are still the same. You will still have to get ready for the work by putting your shoes on in the morning, brushing your teeth and other necessary tasks.
For most of the people, New Year represents hope. The year that is about to end, might not be so great for some people. The wage earner in the family might not have received raise in the family which they had hoped for. There may be an unusual sickness or may be somebody has died in the family, due to which the family members must be sad. The hope which is in mind of people is that the New Year will bring new energy to the family so that they can move on from the miss happenings which took place the previous year. There is also a chance that the New Year would help the family to achieve a state of happiness that was not present in the previous year. There is a hope that the coming year would bring a spike of joy in the lives of people. You always look forward to some things in the coming year.

The best of all gifts around any Christmas tree: the presence of a happy family all wrapped up in each other.

Why is Christmas Day on 25th December?
It is believed that Jesus Christ is the Son of the God and we celebrate Christmas to remember his birth.
You will be surprised to know that ‘Christmas’ comes from the Mass of the Christ or Jesus. In a Mass Service the Christians remember that Jesus died for us and then later he again came back to life. This service was allowed to take place after sunset or before sunrise the next day. So the people had all midnight. This is how we get the name Christ-Mass, shortened to Christmas.
It doesn’t matter if people are Christians or not, they still celebrate the festival of Christmas with full enthusiasm.  At this time all our friends and family come together and remember the good things which they have and feel lucky. Children are always very excited when Christmas is around the corner as they get and receive presents!
The Date of Christmas
No one exactly knows the real birthday of Jesus! There is no specific date given in the Bible, so why do we celebrate it on the 25th of December? There were many arguments amongst the early Christians as to when it should actually be celebrated! Even the birth of Jesus didn’t happen in the 1st year, but it was actually slightly earlier. Constantine was the first Christian Roman Emperor and it was during his rule that first Christmas was celebrated on 25th December 336. Then after few years, it was officially declared by Pope Julius 1 that Christmas would be celebrated on 25th of December.
There are numerous traditions and theories as to why we celebrate Christmas on 25th December.
A very early Christian tradition said that it was on 25th March that Mary was told that she would have a very unique baby. Nine months after the 25th March is the 25th December! Most of the Christians believed that on 25th March the world was made and it is the same day when Jesus died when he was an adult.
Christmas Traditions and Customs in Canada
We celebrate Christmas in a similar way as it is celebrated in other Western countries. It is an official holiday on 25th of December and some of the people take off on the afternoon of the 24th, which is the Christmas Eve Day.
All of you are aware that Canada is a multicultural country and that’s why there are many other holiday traditions which are observed throughout the year. Toronto and Montreal have large number of Jewish population and that’s why Hanukkah celebrations are very popular there.
How is Christmas celebrated in Canada?
On 25th of December, we celebrate Christmas in Canada with our family and friends at home. Everything related to retail and services is almost closed on this day and only the occasional convenience store is open.
On 24th December, that is the Christmas Eve, you will get the last chance complete your shopping for Christmas.
Santa Claus Parades
Most of the cities hold a Santa Claus Parade in the month of November and some of them are spilling over into December. You will be surprised to know that Toronto’s Santa Claus Parade holds the record for the longest standing children’s parade and has also successfully marched the jolly man across the town for more than a century.

Halloween fun is soon to begin. Hope your day is awesome and full of great treats. Have a bewitching night and a very happy Halloween.

The History of Halloween
The festival of Halloween is celebrated at the end of the harvest season in Gaelic culture. It is the time of Samhain in which the ancient pagans take the stock of supplies and prepare for winters. At that time they asked the priests to pray for them as well as their family as they faced the coming dark days of winter. It is believed by the ancient Gaels that on 31st October the boundaries between the worlds of the living and dead would overlap and the ones which have been deceased would come back to life. This would cause havoc like sickness or can even cause damage to the crops.
It is also believed that on 31st October the boundaries between the worlds of living and dead were at the thinnest. Due to the overlapping of both the worlds, the deceased could come back to their life once again. At the same time they would cause great havoc like playing tricks or can even cause harm like spreading sickness or can even damage crops.
To mimic the evil spirits, masks and costumes are worn by the children.
Where does Trick or Treating come from?
One of the main traditions of Halloween is Trick-or-treating. It is an activity for small children in which they proceed from one house to another in costumes. The children ask for treats with the question, “Trick or Treat?” The “trick” part from the trick or treat is basically a threat to play a trick on the home owner or on some part of his property if they refuse to give them the treat. If has been accepted that if a person lives in a neighbourhood with children, then they must purchase treats well in advance for trick or treaters.
With the passage of time, the history of Halloween has evolved. It is really very popular in United States. This festival of Halloween is celebrated in many countries like the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada and is also emerging in many other countries as well. The influence of the American culture has increased a lot in the recent years and that’s why trick or treating has started to occur among children in many parts of Europe. The most significant growth is noted in the United Kingdom for the celebration of Halloween. But at the same time it is facing a rising controversy where the police have threatened to prosecute the parents of the children who carry out the “trick” part. Various parts in continental Europe view Halloween with more scepticism, destructive and illegal tricks and police warnings have raised more suspicion about this game as well as Halloween in general.
Halloween Costumes
The Halloween costumes play a very vital role and that’s why no story on the history of Halloween is complete without mentioning the costumes. The practice of dressing up in costumes and begging from one door to another for treats originated in the Middle Ages and includes Christmas wassailing. In the late medieval times, the people practiced “souling” in which the poor people would from one door to another to beg for food and in return they used to pray for the dead on All Souls Day. It was first originated in Ireland and Britain and then later followed by Italy.
Halloween around the World
The Day of the dead celebrations is very similar to Halloween. The history of Halloween has evolved in a lot many ways across various cultures. The people dress up in attractive costumes and there are skeletons and skeletons everywhere. The best part is that special sweet treats and candies are given to small children. People spend most of their time in graveyards and death imagery is everywhere.
There is a difference between the holidays that promote the fear of dead and the holidays which celebrate the dead. This holiday is all about honouring the dead. In this the people honour their ancestors and loved ones who are no more and try to invite those spirits back into their homes so that they can be a part of the family once more. It is basically celebrated to pay respect to those who have passed away on to the land of the dead.

Parts Avatar would help you to learn how to park a Car perfectly! So have a look !!

How to Park a Car?
Is it possible to drive a car without knowing how to park it? Of course not! If you wish to know and understand how to park your car in various situations, then all you have to do is to reach that spot slowly, position the car correctly and know when to shift gears. It can be a really tough task for some people to park a car perfectly. Here are some tips and tricks with the help of which you can make your parking experience a little less difficult and stressful.
How to park a car by Parallel Parking
Let us first of all understand the parallel parking technique which is used in car parking. Parallel parking is also known as reverse parking as in this firstly you are required to reverse and then stop between two vehicles parked at the side of the road.
There is a little bit of struggle with the parallel parking, but it just takes some time to gear yourself up with 2 or 3 reference points and then your task is completed.
A smart trick which you can use here is that try this technique on a quiet road many a times as you feel, so that you get used to it. It is because you never know when the need to park the car parallel arises. So you should be prepared for such a situation.
How to Park a Car- Parallel Parking Diagram A
When you are driving and you are finding a suitable place to park, if there are many other cars already parked up, then you will have to consider a parallel park. If the road around you is busy, then you should be attentive enough to keep a check on your rear mirror.  The main reason behind this is that whenever you will find a perfect spot to park your car, then you will have to give a signal to the cars at your back that you are slowing down. They might think that you are taking a left turn, but it reality you would be stopping. So slow down gradually so that the car which behind you would get the time to react.
You can stop alongside the vehicle you wish to park behind. The ideal distance should be around 1 meter from door to door.
Parallel Parking Diagram B
When you feel safe, you can start to reverse until the cars are properly levelled at the rear. If you find that your car and the car which is placed towards your left are of same size, then you must line the side mirrors up. You can alter the reference points according to your car. Don’t forget to practice well on a quiet road beforehand.
Parallel Parking Diagram C
In this you will have to steer one complete turn towards left. You can also turn fully left, but it would lead your car too close to the rear of the car in front. The turning angle would be harsher. Make sure that you look to your right blind spot because there can be some pedestrians or cyclists. It is hazardous as the front of your car will swing out. Once you have completely turned the wheel to the left, then now you will need to establish another reference point. There are 2 reference points that would assist you. One can steer full lock right when the left front corner of the car lines up with the rear right corner of the car which is in front. You can notice a triangle between your car and the curb if you will look in your left mirror while reversing. While you are steering right, you should ensure that you have sufficient clearance from the car in front.
Parallel Parking Diagram D
When the car straightens up, you should turn the wheel to the left. When your car is perfectly straight, you should see in your left mirror that the curb is running down the road parallel to your car.
If you will follow these reference points, then you will be able to maintain a good parking distance from the curb. But if you ever feel that you are still too far in the road, then you can move forward slightly and reverse again steering to the left and right once again.
Keep this thing in mind that there should be a distance between your car and the one which is in front of you. If you are not there and someone else parks their vehicle close behind your car, then you will face trouble getting out.
