Road trips are fun if Car doesn’t break down. Partsavatar presents maintenance tips that will keep you on right track!

Conducting proper maintenance on your vehicle can extend the life of your car and save you a lot of money down the road. ~ Care for your car at parts avatar Auto replacement parts!

Proper maintenance of car is very essential for hassle free trips.  It is often frustrating to encounter any form of car trouble particularly when you are in hurry or are far away from auto repair shop. Regular car maintenance can help prevent the possibility of you being stuck in such situations. Let’s take a look at some of the car maintenance tips suggested by parts avatar.

Choose proper Fluids for brakes, cooling and transmission systems
It is very important to use manufacturer’s recommended fluid for your vehicle for it is better performance. Be careful while you choose car’s coolant/antifreeze or automatic transmission fluids as fluid contamination can affect a car’s performance adversely.
Transmission and other components often tend to become noisy and perform poorly if you use bad quality fluids for your vehicle.

Make sure while filling coolant that the radiator is not contaminated. If you see burning smell or dark brown color of coolant, then you might need to flush out the radiator and fill it with new clear coolant. If ignored, it will cause engine overheating problems.

Check the tires
Tires act as interface between car and ground. If your car’s tire is not having enough tread, you won’t be able to stop quickly or handle slippery roads. Check the tires regularly for proper inflation. Under inflation not only damages the tire but also causes accident on the road if you keep on driving. Under-inflated tires are also a risk for your car’s fuel economy. It is better to install TPMS sensors to check tire pressure as tires are very expensive to replace.

There is also a short trick by which you can determine whether your car’s tire needs replacement. Place a dime in one of the tire’s grooves, with the bluenose’s sails pointing down. If you can see all of the sails, then tires probably need replacement.

Check vehicle’s recall status
Recalls identify potential safety issues. So, visit your automakers website and check each vehicle’s recall status.
Automakers provide free repair services for the recalled vehicles, and most of us are oblivious of this fact. About 20 percent of car owners do not take advantage if there vehicle is in recall list because they don’t know such clause.

This is not advised to get a free maintenance. You will also get to know why the vehicle was recalled and which auto part is faulty.

Replace your Brake fluid every two years
Brake fluids help lubricate the moving parts within braking system, protect metal components from rusting and corrosion and also ensure that the hoses and seals remain in good condition.

It is one of the most neglected fluids in cars yet it is very important for a safe drive. The water contamination inside the brake system often leads to brake failure. Check your owner’s manual for instructions and bleed your car’s brakes by replacing brake fluid timely.

Check your car’s battery
Without battery, your car just won’t start. It would be even harder for you if you have to drive in extreme cold region. On an average a car battery lasts for four years. This average lifespan will fluctuate depending upon extreme temperature exposure or whether or not it goes through full charge cycles.

Check your car’s battery and replace it timely for better driving especially in cold weather.

Use premium quality fuel
Some sportier models require grade quality fuel which ignites more evenly in their higher compression engines. Regular fuel will result in sluggish performance of vehicle.
So choose premium quality fuel for optimal performance of engine.

Listen to your car’s noises
You can easily notice issue with any auto part by judging the noise coming from car. If you hear grinding, squealing noise coming out of brakes, then check and replace car’s brake system parts .

Clunking noise can be heard when you turn the steering wheel or it can be noisy exhaust. Your car’s wheel bearing is demanding lubrication if you hear humming noise.

So, the bottom line is, decipher the noises and act accordingly. Ignoring the noise will only increase your repair bill so think wisely.

Go long
Engine cannot heat up enough to remove condensation during short trips of car. If the engine won’t heat up properly then engine oil won’t be able to lubricate and protect the moving parts. As a result engine auto parts will start showing signs of premature damage.

If you take a drive lasting at least 45 minutes and change your car’s oil every three months, it would be best for your engine’s health.

Wash your car

If you are living in cold regions like Canada then do yourself a favor and use a self serve car wash to remove salt from your vehicle’s underside until the water runs clear after every winter.
Otherwise buildup can corrode the electric wiring or brake lines.

Check air filter
For a better mileage and fuel economy, check your car’s air filter at every oil change. Dirty or clogged air filter will prompt the vehicle to use more fuel than usual. For better mileage install new air filter for car.

If you notice decrease in gas mileage or engine performance, you may have to replace your car’s air filter. If ignored your car may have to face the problem of engine misfiring in worst case scenario.

So, never let the air filter get dirty and check it regularly.

Checking Green Car
Eco friendly vehicles are best for fuel economy and emit less volume of carbon compounds in the atmosphere as compared to conventional cars but that doesn’t mean that they don’t require maintenance.

If you own a hybrid car which operates on both battery and gas, hybrid engines require oil changes like the regular cars do.

While electric cars don’t contain oil, you should have their brake System components and steering system components inspected at least once a year.

Check the belts
Broken belts are one of the most common reasons for roadside assistance calls. Visually inspect all the belts for any damage or crack. Replace the belts, radiator and hoses of car easily from any aftermarket store at affordable costs.

Check the exterior lights
Exterior lights are easy to check and inexpensive to replace. You can easily buy automotive lighting accessory from aftermarket auto store based on your owner manual specifications.

Operate the turn signals, brake lights and backup lights and check for reflection in the rear view mirror. Perform the same inspection on front turn signal lights, headlights, high beams and running lights. You should not avoid inspecting the lights especially if you drive mostly at night. Lights are not only for your proper vision and safety on the road but they also notify other motorists on the road of your presence.

PartsAvatar Discloses Peculiar Causes behind Car Breakdown and Ways to Prevent them.

Want to know the most basic causes behind frequent breakdowns of your car? Save your money on expensive repairs and mechanics. – Partsavatar Vehicle Parts.
We rely on your vehicles way too much. So it is possible that your car will cut out on you when you are driving down the road. You can avoid breakdowns and prevent your car from being town away by towing truck by knowing causes behind this. It is very important to keep servicing and checking your vehicle. Let’s have a look at some frequent causes and their remedies.

Dead Battery
This problem is one top of my list of causes. Sometimes when in the morning you turn the key and nothing happens. You just keep on repeating the process until you get sick of it and decide to call your mechanic.Don’t worry.

Battery can get damaged from regular short trips. It is very important to take a long drive at least one a week. Even poor electrical connections can result in battery damage. This problem frequently occurs in winters.

You can prevent the battery from getting damaged by taking long trips because the car’s alternator needs time to recharge your battery every time you drive. Short journeys drain the battery faster than the longer. You can sort this out by charging the battery overnight for every 2 weeks. These ways you will be able to keep it running longer.

Check the connections are secure and the battery terminals are clean and protected from corrosion. Loose or corroded connections need special attention to keep your car going.

Flat Tire
Sometimes it is too late to check a flat tire after the damage occurs and the rim is already on the ground. The worst is you are left stranded on the road. Do routine check up on your tire.

Even a single nail could cause the tire to go flat. So inspect for any debris on the surface of the tire. There are certain things that are important to inspect as follows.

1. Tread depth:  check your tire’s tread depth of car regularly. Take a penny to check the low tread depth. Tread depth should be at least 1.6 mm.
2. Uneven wear: if the tread pattern is unusual or the depth is varying from tire to tire then let the tires checked or replaced if needed.

In case of heavy loads, make sure you adjust the tire pressure of car's tire to cope with the change. Owner’s manual provides information regarding tires so you can take its help.
You can install electric equipment like TPMS in your car .car's Tire pressure monitoring system sensors sense the under inflated tires and let you know it via an electric signal.

Overheating
Several reasons could cause a car to overheat. Damaged cooling system might cause the car’s engine to get overheated and ultimately the engine breaks down.It is strongly advised that if you notice that your car is overheating, do not continue to drive as you might be damaging other parts along with the engine.

Sometimes leaks in radiator or improper level of coolant fluid cause overheating of the engine. You can notice leaks around radiator welds or hoses. Visit you mechanic for replacement of car radiatorand car radiator hosesor automotive coolant.

You can further check the thermostat by feeling the upper radiator hose when the engine has warmed up. If you notice that the hose is still feeling cool then the thermostat is stuck shut. Repair or replace the auto thermostat as recommended by your mechanic.

Sometimes the air entering the cooling system via leaks could cause the engine to overheat. Hence due to air lock, the cooling system stops circulating the coolant and the remaining coolant inside the engine becomes superheated. So, it is very important to inspect the leaks.

The foreign objects or mineral deposits that block the radiator could cause the engine to overheat as it hinders the flow of coolant.
Water pump failure is one of the most common and regular cause for engine overheating. If the water pump is showing the signal of wear or breakage, engine starts overheating. The water pump wears quite often so you may need to change the car's engine water pump periodically.

In cold weather, coolant gels up inside the engine or radiator and cause a blockage. It can also cause internal damage in components like radiator.
Overheating could cause serious engine damage so it is very important to be proactive. Fill the coolant to the proper level and flush out the dirty coolant or fluid that causes the system to overheat. Do not drive an overheated vehicle as you will just damage the entire engine by doing so.

Clutch Cables
If you feel unusually weird while pressing the pedal, there might be some problem with the clutch cable. It is not a good sign.

If you notice a worn or stiff clutch cable then after applying additional pressure on the pedal, it might break. So be careful with hard pedals.

When you are driving up the hill, the car may slip in or out of gears. Clutch cables might have worn out so replace them before it becomes too dangerous for you to drive. Partsavatar offers durable car clutch cables, have a glance.

If you notice jerking of vehicle on slow speeds, slipping of gears or stiff pedals, then get your clutch cables checked by a professional.

Failing starter motor
We sometimes assume the reason behind the stalled vehicle might be failed radiator. But it might be starter.

Starter often produces grinding noise if the starter drive gear is worn out. Do not avoid it as it may damage flywheel if ignored.

When you turn the key and nothing happens, or you turn the key to crank the engine and the engine turns over slowly and stops. The starter motor has been damaged. Call your mechanic immediately and get the starter motor of car or even car starter replaced if necessary. Parts avatar offers free shipping on starters so get the benefit.

Insufficient lubrication

Every engine needs oil not only reduce friction but also to carry away the heat. The oil is primary means by which the rods, pistons and bearings are cooled. So any reduction or improper lubrication may cause these parts to run hot or seize.

Low oil pressure often causes engine failure. You should not starve the engine for oil as this result in failed oil pump, a plugged oil pickup screen inside the oil pan or low oil level.

Keep your engine moving with regular oil change and always choose high quality oil for your car’s engine and its lubrication.

Our life expectancy has increased, not because of healthy food, expensive cosmetics or medicines but automakers are to thank for this. Automobile industries have taken a right turn to increase safety technologies within their products.Wearing seat belts by law saw a revolution in accident statistics. But sometimes we take safety for granted while choosing a car. Rather we give importance to its style, luxury, entertainment technologies, panoramic roofs and fun stuffs. Since life is unpredictable so is driving. We carelessly set out to drive but driving gives no guarantee of avoiding mishaps and unpredictable happenings can occur. Luckily a number of new technologies have been introduced to make driving safer. These technologies basically alert you of the danger and before getting into a mishap you could safely avoid it.

Here are some technologies available to bolster your driving experience.

LANE DEPARTURE ASSIST

It analysis an approaching vehicle’s speed and distance and warns you of potential danger if you change lanes. This also alerts the driver if he unintentionally moves out of his lane.Such a situation could create a panic and could ultimately cause mishap.

It relies upon the cameras in the housing around the rear view mirror to read between lines on the road ahead. Even if you are inattentive, lane keeping helps correct the course of the car. There are several different signals of alert like an audible warning message or vibration of steering when you wander of your lane. These systems require one or two white lines to judge the safe zone for car. Bad weather could hinder the visibility of lines and reduce system’s capability. The lane assist generates warning signals whenever it detects unsafe driver behavior or rash driving. Some high tech devices even monitor eye activity, body posture to decide if the driver is falling asleep. In this case system may take charge of the steering and slow down the speed just in case.

COMPUTER CONTROLS

Today cars are equipped with computer controlled braking, electrical power steering and throttle systems.  They not only work on driver’s input but also take control in case the driver is inattentive. They can even provide emergency assistance if a crash proves unavoidable.  It can provide you with an exact navigation without having to open or look at your smart phone.

In some countries like U.S., vehicles weighing 10000 pounds or less are required to be equipped with TPMS. TPMS sensors give a driver warning signs if air pressure is too low. This keeps you safe from any on road mishap.

ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL

Cruise control adjusts throttle and  car brakes to keep a safe distance from vehicle in front of you with the help of sensors and radars. Once you set maximum speed of your car say 70 mph, as long as the car In front of you goes say 70 yours will too. If the car in front of you slows down, so will yours. If the system detects collision situations, it will brake hard and tighten the seat belts. Once it knows the lane is clear, it will return to its normal position.

AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING (AEB)

AEB is one of the most significant technologies that help in reducing fatal crashes and accidents. It identifies the danger on the road with the help of radar, lasers and optical sensors. It is different from anti lock braking system as it recognizes when the driver makes a panic stop and will apply additional brake pressure in case of emergency. At first it will alert the driver with alarm and even if the driver fails to take any action, car automatically applies the brakes to avoid collision. Cameras increase the capability as they can tell the difference between metal and matter. So they can assess whether they are viewing another car, bicycle or pedestrian.

BLIND SPOT DETECTION

Blind spot monitoring scans rear area on both left and right with cameras to warn you if it is not safe to change lanes. Often a picture is highlighted in the wing mirror if it is not safe to change lanes. It is designed to cars in your blind spot while driving. It is short range detection systems that generates light in your mirror or cause the steering wheel to vibrate when it detects something in the way.

VISION ENHANCEMENT

An attentive or clear sight avoids a lot of mishaps on the road. Daylight vision is not a problem but night time may cause less visibility. So, assistive adaptive car headlights identify changes in the road direction and track the road around curves to improve visibility. The major goal of this system is to help you see farther down the road and to spot people, animals on your way. An image is generated on the cockpit display.

DUAL STAGE CAR AIRBAGS

This technology helps to sense the posture of the riders, seatbelt usage, rear facing child seats and speed and accordingly deploys air bags.

HIGH BEAM ASSIST
High beam assist is beneficial for night drivers. Sensors scan the road and dip the headlight when traffic is identified.

INTELLIGENT SPEED ASSISTANCE

It basically keeps the driver within recommended speed limits. Some speed alerts generate signals based on road signs they monitor on the road. Speed often kills. So if a driver unintentionally increases their car’s speed, sensors warn the driver with audible messages or even reducing the speed automatically.

REAR VIEW CAMERAS

New technology rear view cameras not only protect your car from collision but also provide wide open shot of what is happening behind you to help with parking.

The benefits of these technologies are extremely valuable for this as well as the future generation. all these safety features avoid accidents and save our precious lives. for your next car purchase do give importance to safety over luxury. for online aftermarket auto parts shopping visit Partsavatar.ca as it offers high quality auto parts at competitive prices.

Tires are under inflated? Ensure your safety on the road by deploying TPMS.
Car's Tire pressure monitoring system or TPMS monitors the pressure in the tire with the help of a wheel mounted sensor. Tire pressure monitoring systems have been a legal requirement on new cars since 2012. The sole purpose of these systems is to warn you if your tires are under inflated. The under inflated tires often offer a less stable ride and there are more prone to possible blowouts. The warning prompts the driver to inflate the tires to proper level. Drivers are advised to keep their vehicle’s tires inflated to the level indicated on tire placard.  You can easily locate placard on door jamb or glove box. TPMS often avoids major fatalities that could happen on high traffic roads or bad weather locations.

TPMS comes in different systems as direct and indirect TPMS. Let us know about these systems in detail.

INDIRECT TPMS

The circumference of under inflated tire is small. Therefore, Indirect TPMS of car uses existing individual wheel speed hardware.  This hardware supplies car’s anti lock and anti skid control functions in addition. This hardware identifies a pressure drop and alerts the driver through either illuminated fascia light or an on dash message.

Indirect TPMS relies on wheel speed sensors used by anti lock brake systems. The rate of revolution of the wheel could help the system to detect relative size of tires. An under inflated tire also causes a wheel to spin faster than usual, thus if detected, computer would generate a warning for it.
So, indirect TPMS don’t use electronic processing or any kind of instrument to detect the tire pressure. They just create their results of pressure detection on the basis of rotation of tire. Sometimes if a new tire is installed in a vehicle, it could relatively generate false rotation rate so sometimes the results of indirect TPMS may be inaccurate. These systems are less expensive than Direct TPMS but at the same time they are less precise as compared to direct one.  Less maintenance is required for indirect TPMS but this system has to be reset after every tire rotation or inflation.

DIRECT TPMS

Direct TPMS employs a sensor in each wheel and communicates with a separate transmitter. The Car's TPMSsensors employed can also provide tire temperature readings. This system sends the data to centralized control module where it is interpreted and analyzed. The indicator light illuminates as a signal for warning that your vehicle’s tire pressure is low. System easily distinguishes between the readings of each tire of the vehicle because each sensor is provided with a unique serial number. Though Direct TPMS is more accurate and popular as compared to Indirect TPMS, it requires more maintenance and is cost effective. Another advantage to this system is its battery is quite long lasting and there is no need to reset. It is a wireless system.

If there is some problem with the battery of the sensor, then this might not be good news because batteries are unserviceable and you will have to change the whole sensor. The sensor stem is also prone to damage basically in case of accidents.

MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR REQUIREMENTS

1. An integral battery is sealed within each sensor. Each battery has a design life of about 10 years or 100,000 miles. If one battery gets depleted the entire system has to be changed. The new part needs to be activated and then coded to the vehicle. This is quite time consuming and requires costly tools which are $140 per wheel.

2. Most sensors need a service kit that includes new sealing washers as well as replacement TPMS valve of car core. The whole sensor is not needed to be replaced whenever the tire is removed. Plastic caps are often used to protect core and sensor internals whenever the sensor is dismounted.

3. Corrosion also affects a sensor by damaging the stem causing small air leaks or complete deflation. But stems can be easily replaced without undergoing replacement of sensor because stems are affixed by small screws. If a TPMS sensor has been damaged by careless tire fitter, then it must be replaced immediately.

4. If your system detects fault, then you may need to replace your sensor.  By disabling TPMS, we cannot modify the sensors because it could alter car’s security system as well. So better have it changed than following a cheap route.

5.  The genuine OE sensors are less costly as compared to other sensors. Buying a genuine replacement sensor may be a viable option. You can also fit a good quality replacement sensor that can be programmed with old sensor’s unique identifier.

6. When the warning sign illuminates while driving, it means system has detected a tire low pressure than standard. As soon as the warning is generated, the tires should be inspected. When the tires are properly inflated, the warning lamp will automatically extinguish.

7. Experts say that 25 % of the vehicles have under inflated tires. Inflated tire not only results in poor driving experience or unsteady ride but also cause poor fuel economy, small tire life and longer braking distances.

8. It may be necessary to reprogram the TPMS when the sensor is installed or tires are rotated.

9.  Proper wheel alignment adjusts the angle of wheels thus correctly positioning the vehicle’s frame and  maximizing tire’s life

10. Tire must be replaced if tread depth is measured 2/32nds of an inch or less.
