Now get rid of the strange noise coming from the engine and get Muffler and exhaust system parts at cheap prices only at Partsavatar

Is your car’s Engine creating strange sounds? Feeling vibrations? Check out muffler and exhaust system parts at Parts avatar.

Muffler or silencer is basically designed to reduce the noise coming from exhaust system of your automobile. These are generally installed within the exhaust system of your vehicle. The muffler is designed to reduce the loudness of the sound created by the engine.
It uses acoustic quieting technique to quiet the sound. That means the muffler dampens the vibrations to prevent them from reaching the passengers.

MUFFLER AND EXHAUST SYSTEM TYPES

There are different types of high performance muffler as:
1. Turbo muffler
2. Bullet muffler
3. Cherry bomb muffler
4. Full case muffler
5. Perforated bullet mufflers
6. Chambered bullet mufflers

Exhaust systems of different types are:
1. Vector muffler
2. Spiral baffle muffler
3. Aero turbine muffler
4. Single exhaust
5. Dual exhaust

SIGNS OF ISSUES WITH YOUR CAR’S MUFFLER

When the vehicle is louder than usual while running that means the muffler is undergoing some problems. It should be taken to mechanic right away, before further damage could be done to other parts. Here are some useful things to know if you find your vehicle may need muffler or exhaust pipe repair.

CATALYTIC CONVERTER

Car's Catalytic converter is very expensive part of exhaust system. It is widely used in SUV’s and trucks. Muffler damage if ignored, can damage catalytic converter as well, and you may have to spend a lot of dollars in its repairing.
Its being costly is also a reason of being prone to theft. If you notice loud sounds and strange performance of your car upon startup, then it may not be good news for you.
If the catalytic converter is failing in its performance, it may sound as if someone is shaking a box of pebbles while your car is in rest or stopped in traffic. It is advised to make your muffler and catalytic converter checked immediately.

LEAK IN EXHAUST SYSTEM

While driving your car, if you notice strange vibrations and loss of power then get the exhaust system checked by the mechanic. This unusual vibration could be felt while touching the steering and foot pedals. A rock hitting underneath your vehicle could cause crack in the muffler which will result in loose parts of the exhaust system.

You may hear rumbling sound depending on the amount of damage done. The holes and exhaust leak could degrade engine’s performance. It may be needed to replace the exhaust pipe or muffler in this situation.

RUSTING

Rusting could also damage a muffler. Mufflers do rust by the passage of time. The water collected in the exhaust system causes rusting of muffler. This water condenses because it does not get enough heat to burn off. Some natural factors like Snow, rain and salt can also cause rusting of muffler.

DECREASED FUEL EFFICIENCY

If you fill your gas tank more often than normal then get your car’s exhaust system checked. Leaks in exhaust cause the engine to work harder thus increasing the fuel usage. It is a sign that something is wrong with your vehicle.
When your engine works harder it requires more fuel.
If you are looking for an aftermarket car muffler or need a replacement then Parts avatar has a lot of options for you.

STEPS TO REPLACE YOUR CAR’S MUFFLER

Getting your muffler changed can run into quite an expense. With a few tools and right replacement parts you can save a lot of money. You will need ratchet wrench, socket, hacksaw or reciprocating saw, hammer and assorted wrench to change the muffler. You need to investigate whether you will need to cut the old muffler free or if it set up with a bolt off and replace model.

REMOVING OLD MUFFLER

1. The first thing you need to do is to find a flat surface to park the vehicle. Put the transmission in park and apply emergency brakes. Jack up the front end of your car and put a jack stand on each side to rest it securely. Dirt, grass, gravel are not acceptable surfaces.

2. Disconnect the battery before starting the process. Disconnecting the battery will ensure that vehicle cannot be started in this process.

3. Secure a badly welded muffler with muffler clamps. Spray rust penetrators like WD-40 on bolts. This is done because mufflers are exposed to road, heat and water and have good deal of rust on its surface.

4. Loosen the nuts on the car exhaust clamps with the help of socket or hand wrench. If you want to reuse the muffler clamp then spray it with good amount of rust penetrators.

5. After removing exhaust clamp, respray the area of muffler pipe with rust penetrator and let it rest for few minutes. Pull the muffler towards the back of the car and slip the pipes apart.

CUTTING THROUGH EXHAUST PIPE

1. Take the hacksaw or reciprocating saw or exhaust cutter and cut the exhaust pipe of car directly in front and behind the muffler. Wrap the cutter around the pipe and move the handle back and forth until the pipe is cut. Be careful not to saw through any of the lines underside of the vehicle. Those may be lines connecting to your fuels and brakes.

2. Now you want a fresh connection for new mufflers. Take a pair of pliers and put a few splits in the end of the metal on exhaust pipe at the back end where the muffler will rest. Place the new muffler into available hangers.

INSTALLING THE MUFFLER

1. Spread a fair amount of muffler sealant on both front and back exhaust pipes. Put the clamps on the pipes and shove them out of your way temporarily.

2.  Slide the muffler over exhaust piping. Push the ends of muffler into each end of exhaust pipes and put the clamps in place. Make sure there are centered over where the muffler pipe and exhaust pipes meet. Use the socket to tighten them.

3. Raise the vehicle with the jack and remove the jack stands. Un-chock the wheels and take it for a test drive. Make sure there are no leaks in the exhaust pipe and loud noises. An exhaust leak would likely be visible if there is any.
Therefore in this way you have manually replaced your muffler in easy manner. You can explore more after market mufflers or related accessories on Partsavatar.ca.

Upgrade Clutch and Exhaust Parts at affordable prices only at Partsavatar

Is your clutch slipping out of gear? Smooth your ride by upgrading the clutch and exhaust parts available at parts avatar.

The clutch in an auto vehicle is one of the important components. They are workhouse of a modern car. Located between engine and transmission, clutch encounters ever increasing strain caused by power and high torques. The clutch is the first stage in the transmission of the car with manual gearbox. Most cars use friction clutch operated by hydraulic fluids or cables. When the car is moving under power, the clutch is engaged. A pressure plate bolted to flywheel exerts constant pressure on the driven plate by means of diaphragm spring. Earlier cars had series of coil springs instead of diaphragm springs at the back of pressure plate. When the clutch is disengaged or the pedal is depressed, the arm pushes a release bearing against the center of diaphragm spring which releases clamping pressure.

Drivers are advised to immediately take their car to car garage, if they notice even minor problems with the clutch. At some point in your vehicle’s life, you are probably going to experience problems regarding clutch. Auto Clutches engage and disengage the motive force produced by the engine.

The increase in a vehicle’s weight, torques, and engine’s output by the passage of time has increased demands of a better clutch system. Pulling tons of loads behind by heavy vehicles makes it hard to drive on a clutch.

Therefore, damage to clutch is quite evident. Bucking when setting off can cost expensive repair. Heavy tow loads can damage a vehicle’s clutch very badly. Overload will cause friction between clutch disc and flywheel which will result in isolated hot spots. These hot spots will increase the cracks on the friction surface of clutch pressure plate and flywheel. This can cause complete failure of dual mass flywheel (DMF) of car because the special lubricant in the DMF would become harder if it is constantly exposed to the heat. This will eventually lead to replacement of the DMF.

Let’s take a look at some warning signs that your clutch may not be functioning up to par.

SLIPPING OUT OF GEAR

The most common warning is slipping of a clutch. If your clutch slips out of the gear during regular driving, then it needs replacement immediately. What this means is that when you accelerate, the extra gas won’t make the car move any faster. When the engine spins faster, clutch disc slips on the flywheel and none of the motion gets transferred. It will seem as though the car suddenly goes out of gear and then comes back in. The gears are still engaged but the engine motion is not producing enough motion in the transmission and the car's drive train i.e. input shaft, drive shaft, wheels etc. because it is slipping. This indicates that the clutch has worn out and the crankshaft is leaking the oil. Any worn out clutch can be replaced in a simple repairing procedure.

BURNING SMELL OF CLUTCH

Overheating of a clutch can produce burning smell, same as that of burning of a rubber. These are signs that your clutch plate is beginning to wear and tear. Too much incomplete contact with the flywheel may cause the clutches to suffer. This may happen as the pressure plate is maladjusted or damaged and put the clutch disc in partial contact with the flywheel. Riding the clutch can disengage the clutch disc from the flywheel, making the latter spin against the former.

This slow grinding of the clutch disc causes premature wear. This problem is most common in slow moving traffic. So in such cases get it checked by a professional.

DISENGAGING PROBLEMS OF CLUTCH

The hydraulic action that disengages the clutch disc from the flywheel can have problems. It may become difficult to disengage the clutch in this situation. In old model vehicles, mechanical actions that engage and disengage the clutch may cause problems due to this. A soft clutch is an early sign that your clutch is beginning to fail. If this happens, you will suddenly find yourself in a vehicle that cannot be taken out of gear except by force. You can still put on the brakes but they would be fighting the motion of the engine. This may cause dangerous situation which is better off avoiding.

Drive your car for short distance keep your attention on how far you let the clutch out before the gear catches. If you allow your clutch to come out, it is sign of a worn out clutch.

GREASE ON THE SEALS OF THE CRANKSHAFT OUTPUT AND TRANSMISSION INPUT

Too much grease on transmission input or pilot bearing as well as leaks in hydraulic actuation system lead to dirty facings. These can cause change in frictional behavior between clutch disc and flywheel.
Therefore it is necessary to thoroughly analyze the source of the problem and to fix it immediately.

TIPS TO PREVENT DAMAGE OF CLUTCHES

1. Absolute cleanliness is necessary. Touching clutch facing with greasy hands may result in impaired operations later.

2. The clutch hub needs proper greasing. If too much grease is used, the centrifugal forces spread lubricant onto the clutch facings causing it to malfunction.

3. Check the clutch disc for axial run out prior to installation.

4. Do not use force to join clutch disc and transmission input shaft hubs as it may cause damage to the hub spine.

5. Tighten the clamping screws in accordance with the requirements using star pattern and applying specified torques.

6. Thoroughly inspect the release system and if necessary replace the worn parts.

7. The adjacent components should also be inspected during the clutch replacement as doing so will save up expensive follow up repairs.

8. You can run a small test about whether or not your clutch is ready for replacement. You can conduct a simple road test. When in first gear, rev your engine and change directly into fifth. If your engine continues to rev high, this means that gear has not caught on properly and clutch has some issues.

Make sure the clutch on your manual transmission vehicle stays in good condition by paying attention to the above discussed factors.

Save your engine parts from damaging and get high quality aftermarket antifreeze and coolants at parts avatar canada

Is your car overheating or freezing due to low level of fluids? Ensure the well being of your engine by getting high quality antifreeze and coolants at Parts Avatar.

At low temperature, your car had been outside all day, yet it starts right away. Even at high temperatures car does not show the signs of overheating. This is due to the additive called antifreeze in the cars.  In this article we would study the importance of antifreeze or coolant in a car.
When your car starts to run hot, that indicates that the engine has started to run hot. When the car is running with the engine on and the temperature gauge goes up the risky level, then it is evident that there is some problem with the engine.

Antifreeze prevents a rigid enclosure caused from expansion and bursting due to freezing of water.
Careful selection of antifreeze can enable a wide temperature range in which the mixture remains in the liquid phase, which is critical to efficient heat transfer.

Sometimes words coolant and antifreeze can be a bit misleading. This is because same liquid can be referred to as coolant or antifreeze. Antifreeze or coolant is the colored fluid usually green or red in color which is found in your car’s radiator.  Radiators are normally filled with 50/50 mixture of antifreeze and water. Antifreeze also helps in lubrication as it lubricates parts it comes in contact with like water pump. Plain water is avoided as coolant because it could lead to galvanic corrosion of the engine.

WHY DO I NEED ANTIFREEZE?

Antifreeze is just what it sounds like it’s an agent that acts as a way to prevent your engine from freezing in cold temperatures. You need to ensure that you have antifreeze in your vehicle all time. You can a buy a gallon jug jar from an auto store to keep antifreeze in summers. You can store a bottle in your trunk.

Only change antifreeze when the engine is cold. if the car has just been running you can burn or crack the engine block or even the hot coolant can injure you. If the existing coolant is dirty or discolored, drain and flush the coolant with distilled water before adding a new coolant.

Most commonly used antifreeze solutions are mixture of water and either ethylene glycol or propylene glycol.
By having antifreeze with you, you can add it to your vehicle yourself if you see your levels running low.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Antifreeze was developed to overcome shortcoming of water as a heat transfer fluid. Some engines have freeze plugs to avoid freeze damage to an engine.

Antifreeze has lower freezing point and higher boiling point than water. The antifreeze acts as an insulator. It increases the functional temperature range of your engine.

If you live in cold areas antifreeze keeps liquid in your engine running and stops the engine from freezing up.  In hot areas, antifreeze raises the boiling point of water to avoid quick evaporation of water.  For example, if mixed correctly, it can keep radiator fluid from freezing even if the temperature is less than 30°C below zero.  Even more, it can keep the same fluid from boiling at as much as 275°F.  Antifreeze can easily control water molecules.

Antifreeze cools the engine and carries heat from engine to radiator. With proper antifreeze, a wide range of temperature can be tolerated by the engine.

TYPES OF ANTIFREEZE

Nowadays antifreeze comes in colors as traditional green, extended life yellow, extended life pink and orange. When it comes to adding or replacing antifreeze, you must follow the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendation. Some of the antifreeze commonly used are:

GREEN ANTIFREEZE
This traditional antifreeze is florescent in color and is made of ethylene glycol. It uses inorganic acid technology and contains silicate or phosphate to prevent corrosion. Its lifespan is near 36000 miles because corrosion inhibitors break down sooner.

ORANGE AND PINK ANTIFREEZE
These antifreeze have been used since 1996 and use organic acid technology type coolants in engines. They help preventing corrosion. They have lifespan of about 150000 miles because organic inhibitors last long preventing corrosion. These should not be used in old vehicles that are made to use traditional green antifreeze.

LIGHT YELLOW ANTIFREEZE
This uses hybrid organic acid technology type coolants known as “G5”. It is most commonly sold under Zerex brand name. It mixes organic acid technology with traditional inhibitors like silicate and phosphate.

TIPS THAT YOU CAN USE TO RUN CAR SMOOTHLY

1. If you are driving down the highway, you want to make sure that you don’t ride with the vehicle running hot for too long or that you don’t stay in a low gear too much if you are speeding. It may start overheating and to prevent that you may stop it at some point. Rather waiting for a big problem to occur, get it serviced right away.

2. Overheating issues and transmission problems are some of biggest reasons people go to mechanics and sometimes engines are very expensive to repair and replace, but there are some options. You can temporarily fix and rebuild your transmission by using older parts.

3. When you start your engine in the morning especially on a cold day, its important to engine management system that the engine gets warm as quickly as possible after startup.

4. If the coolant leaks, boils or cooling system needs to be drained, then make sure to check your antifreeze’s freeze protection.

5. When formulating the mixture, distilled water should be used instead of tap water or filtered water. This is because filtered or tap water has minerals like calcium and magnesium which leave their deposits on cooling system.

6. Do not combine above mentioned different antifreeze together in a situation of emergency. Better use pure water than this combination, and if damage has been done then take it immediately to professionals to get it flushed out. This combination of different antifreeze usually shortens the lifespan of the mixture, thus damaging the cooling system of the vehicle. This would clog the radiator and engine will become overheated. So avoid this hazard to happen.

7. Avoid using pure antifreeze. Trying to alter the manufacturer’s suggestion regarding antifreeze will harm your car. Pure antifreeze does not have heat transfer ability that a mixture of water and antifreeze has. If used in pure state, car may lose up to 35% of its heat transfer abilities. It will surely hasten your engine’s demise so beware.

Therefore, above mentioned points can solve your problems regarding overheating and you can choose a better antifreeze for your vehicle.

Protect your car auto parts this winter from freezing.

Lacking winter driving skills? This winter protect your car from sudden onset on highways.

Driving can sometimes be a daunting task when weather is snowy. When your destination has low temperature, winter driving skills are especially critical. This article explains ways to deal with the sudden onset of the vehicle in extremely cold weathers. The following major components should be checked upon before driving in extreme winters.

CABIN

Car cabin’s environment greatly affects a driver’s comfort, performance and fatigue. A seat that causes discomfort, a bumpy, freezing ride can make driver very unpleasant. Following should be kept into mind for better and conformable seat.

1. WEATHER STRIPPING

There are kits available in auto stores for better seats of your cabin. Cold temperatures like -25° C to -40° C make rubber hard and brittle. So, while opening and closing, doors could break and holes may be made in insulation. This will make it difficult to drive the vehicle.

2.  CAR HEATER

You must make sure it works. In the drastic weather if the heater breaks down, one could imagine what deal of inconvenience it would become for the driver.

3. WINDOWS

The quality of glass especially on the windshield should be good. Sometimes, when you defog the windshield, it cracks due to the temperature difference between inside and outside of the vehicle. This could not be a problem for new cars as the advanced technology provides tempered glass but it could become a matter of concern for the old ones.

ENGINE

The engine is the most important part of any vehicle. The car itself is incomplete without an engine. When the engine stops working, so does your car. Just as human heart needs to be healthy for you to live, same goes for the car engine auto parts for its proper working. There are several elements that will need to be looked at for better and proper functionality of the auto engine. Those are as follows:

1.  CAR BATTERY

It’s impossible to start a car without a battery. The automotive Battery also manages the electrical system of the car. A shorted out battery will stop electrical systems from running. The colder temperatures tend to slow down the chemical reaction in the battery, thus decreasing the power needed for the car to start. If you have a battery that is three years old then it would be a good idea to replace it.

2. ENGINE BLOCK AND MOTOR OIL

Motor oil needs to stay in liquid form and able to be pumped into the engine when it starts. So the winter viscosity needs to be appropriate. 5W oil may perform well at low temperatures and helps engine from seizing.
Engine block needs to be heated up by using electric engine block heaters, since it provides heat to the block keeping fuel, oil and coolant at temperatures above freezing. This usually comes as standard or optional equipment on trucks with large diesel engines to keep fuel from gelling.

3. FUEL AND FUEL SYSTEM

Diesel fuel because of high viscosity, at low temperatures tend to gel, so there is a heater for fuel tank and fuel lines built in the cars.
Gasoline engines don’t have problems with gelling of fuels. But modern gasoline with ethanol freezes at high temperatures, and water mixed in gasoline may clog auto fuel pump and fuel line.

4. COOLING SYSTEM

The car antifreeze system in cooling mechanism may contain water and freeze in the pipes depending upon temperature. Things may become worse if you have water instead of antifreeze in system things. Mostly blow lamps are used to thaw the engine block and fuel lines on the trucks.

TIRES

When the temperature drops, summer tires tend to slip and provide worse traction than all season or winter tires. Winter tires provide better traction on snow and ice.

ON THE ROAD

If its -25°C temperature, you may find the windows are icing up no matter what you do, you may have to defrost the windshield .These are uncomfortable measures but far better than waiting for the police after you get into accident.
Do not let the gas tank below half full. You may need more fuel than you planned.
So to have a great driving experience this winter without getting stuck somewhere, better have a look at above mentioned elements. If you are thinking to get your accessories changed then don’t forget to visit partsavatar.ca, as they deal in best auto parts across Canada.

For a smooth ride it is very important to choose right set of tires.

Clueless about car’s tires? Learn important things while choosing set of tires for your auto mobile.

Tires are the most overlooked part of a vehicle. They make the main contact between the road and the vehicle. During summers and winters many people face problems especially regarding tires because of lack of proper knowledge about them. An inadequate set of tires cause issues like frequent wearing of tires, flat tires due to inadequate pressure in them and steering problems.

This article will help you know the conditions and essentials for choosing the right set of tires. A good set of tires will improve handling, steering and suspension of car, acceleration and braking system auto parts of a car.

While choosing right set of tires, one must keep the following elements in consideration:

1. TUBE TYPE/ TUBELESS
Tubeless tires should be preferred over tube type. They are safer than the tuber ones and are more advanced. Allow wheels are not needed if you are using tubeless tires.

2. SIZE
Size is most important factor of a tire. Tire sizes are represented in a standard format.
Three deciding factors of choosing right size are:

RIM SIZE
You have to choose the tire size designed for exactly the size of the rim you plan to mount the tire on. Larger rims will reduce the sidewall height and minimize sidewall flex.

TREAD WIDTH
0 mm-20 mm increase in width is considered generally. Tire compound plays a large role in its gripping. If you increase the tire width then make sure that they do not touch wheel wells of the car on turning the steering wheel all the way.

SIDEWALL HEIGHT
Use calculator to judge basic changes in size. Generally 3-4 % change is acceptable.

3. TREAD PATTERN
The tread of a tire refers to the rubber on its circumference that makes contact with the road or the ground. The pattern of grooves into the rubber are called tread pattern. The tread pattern has a major effect on wet weather performance of a tire. Tread pattern also calculates the road noise generated by the tire due to trapping and expulsion of air from channels. Re treaded tires should be avoided. They are highly dangerous. Following are some common tread pattern used:

CONVENTIONAL TREAD
Conventional treads are most commonly used treads. These are neither unidirectional nor asymmetric. These can be run either in direction or mounted on the rim.

 UNI DIRECTIONAL
These are basically designed for rotation in a specified direction. The marking on the sidewalls of the tires states the direction of rotation with arrow. Their usual pattern is either in ‘A’ or ‘V’. These are beneficial for water channeling and tire noise controlling.

ASYMMETRIC
These tires have outside sidewall and inside sidewall. There will always be a notation stating the side to be faced by road. Outside shoulder of tire tread can be designed with different pattern and compound to aid high speed cornering.

DIRECTIONAL AND ASYMMETRICAL
It features V shaped pattern of directional tread and dry weather traction of asymmetrical tread. Tires with this pattern should be treated as directional tires for tire rotation.

TREAD WEAR GRADING
The tread wear grading indicates the tire’s relative wear rate as tested against an industry standard which is 100. Higher the tread wear number, longer it is for the tread to wear down. Consumers are advised to choose tire brand with high tread wear rating. It should be kept in mind that driving conditions and environment may affect actual tire wear.

TRACTION GRADING
This specifies the tire’s ability to stop on wet pavement as tested under controlled conditions and test surfaces. The traction rating from highest to lowest is as “AA”,”A”,”B” and “C” based on braking tests. Tire with high traction rate is advised to be chosen. Note that traction rating does not include cornering or turning performance of a tire.

TEMPERATURE GRADING
It points out a tire’s ability to withstand heat. Temperature grading from highest to lowest is as “A”, “B”, and “C”. If the tire is unable to endure the detrimental effects of heat, its ability to run at high speed decreases. Blowouts and tread separations may occur while going on a long distance drive in high temperature. Purchasing tire of high temperature grade would be a nice decision.

4. RUBBER COMPOUND
Rubber compound is the most decisive factor in determining tire’s traction and tread wear characteristics.  The quality of rubber is proportional to amount of traction you get and speed rating of the tire, and inversely proportional to tread life off tire.  So, the higher the speed rating of tire, better the grip of the tire. Compound also determines the behavior of the tire, for example, while approaching traction, some tires screech and wail but some let out the faintest chirp.

5. OVERALL QUALITY OF THE TIRE
Overall quality of the tire can be determined by keeping in mind the following.

REPUTATION OF MANUFACTURER
A good manufacture should possess modern facilities, better quality standards and newer equipment at their manufacturing units. Doing research and reading reviews on the manufacturer may help in getting an idea about how reliable the manufacturing company is.

WARRANTY
The fine print shall be read.

DATE OF MANUFACTURE
Every tire is stamped with a four digit DOT code on its sidewalls. The fresher the tire, the better it is. Try to buy a tire not older than 6 months.

ADDED TECHNOLOGIES
Each manufacturer has a different technology they add to their tire mechanism. We must go for something revolutionary rather going for its unique name.

If you are looking for long lasting set of tires, then above mentioned factors would be helpful. For aftermarket products do not forget to visit Partsavatar.ca which offers best deal in auto parts across Canada.
