Why is Christmas Day on 25th December?
It is believed that Jesus Christ is the Son of the God and we celebrate Christmas to remember his birth.
You will be surprised to know that ‘Christmas’ comes from the Mass of the Christ or Jesus. In a Mass Service the Christians remember that Jesus died for us and then later he again came back to life. This service was allowed to take place after sunset or before sunrise the next day. So the people had all midnight. This is how we get the name Christ-Mass, shortened to Christmas.
It doesn’t matter if people are Christians or not, they still celebrate the festival of Christmas with full enthusiasm. At this time all our friends and family come together and remember the good things which they have and feel lucky. Children are always very excited when Christmas is around the corner as they get and receive presents!

There were many arguments amongst the early Christians as to when it should actually be celebrated! Even the birth of Jesus didn’t happen in the 1st year, but it was actually slightly earlier. Constantine was the first Christian Roman Emperor and it was during his rule that first Christmas was celebrated on 25th December 336. There are numerous traditions and theories as to why we celebrate Christmas on 25th December.
A very early Christian tradition said that it was on 25th March that Mary was told that she would have a very unique baby. Nine months after the 25th March is the 25th December! Most of the Christians believed that on 25th March the world was made and it is the same day when Jesus died when he was an adult.
